rocking the bay
it is pretty much a blur- though, i remember lots of faux fur.
it was mellow moon, lassoo laroo, frankenpain, queen pain, yours truly, and my sis, ladytron, hitting the sunset party at cocomo in dogpatch saturday night. oh yes, we brought the pain.
hooped and danced for awhile, went elsewhere for more determined partying, and then back to close the place out in full fur. there are some silly group shots somewhere i prolly don’t really want to look at. prolly already on flickr.
it was a little weird for a sunset party. confused people being indoors. and other oddities; i couldn’t bring in my water bottles (but smuggled in my camelback). the music was pretty good, the place had high ceilings, and there was some space at times on the dance floor. we all threw down. i’m surrounded by great fucking hoopers who continue to inspire me.
i didn’t manage to thwack anybody, though i lost it almost immediately on a toss. managed to hit my groove a few times. always satisfying.
we were all pretty sore from guerrilla FirepaiN up north the night before. (yes, that is why we use the word pain) thanks to proudmari (and her son) for the great tunes. proudmari, evilbendy and dbug had joined us in playing with fire for several hours in the cold evening. we all had some pretty solid burns. though, because those damn things are so heavy, i could see a tangible collective progression of exhaustion over a relatively short period. really takes it out of you, especially knee hooping.
without a doubt i think i liked my first burn the best. even though i was more restrained with my moves as i warmed up, i had a lot of energy to spare. by the third one, i was feeling it.
watching everyone kick ass with fire, i’ve decided we have to perform at the man this year. the consensus seems to be yes. would be a fulfillment of a dream i had at my first burn. pretty fucking cool.
then, tonight we had the usual HooppaiN gathering in potrero. i wasn’t sure what to expect when a few of the core members couldn’t make it. but peeps appeared and it was the blast it always is, particularly these days. we are on a roll. found the magic formula. (though, i’m thinking we need to add a visual artist to the mix…)
you gotta love the bay. where else could you have these options? i feel pretty fortunate to have this fantastic playground to call home.
